About Wisconsin’s Lobbying Data Files
Wisconsin’s Eye on Lobbying system gives people an easy way to see who is attempting to influence the Legislature and state government, and about what bills, budget subjects, administrative rule-making procedures, and topics they are lobbying. Because some users may want to do more in-depth analysis of reported lobbying activities, the Government Accountability Board now makes raw data from the Eye on Lobbying system available for downloading.
The G.A.B. organized cumulative lobbying data into the five tables. The first table contains some basic information regarding lobbying principals, such as the legislative sessions during which they were a registered lobbying principal, their registration date, cessation date (if applicable), areas of interest, membership, and location. The remaining four files contain information about bills, budget subjects, topics, and administrative rule-making procedures on which these principals lobbied. These files include the principals’ registered positions on bills and the reported lobbying effort in hours during each six-month reporting period. Information about how lobbying principals report information to the G.A.B. is available through the Eye On Lobbying website manuals.
The G.A.B. will update these data files following the completion of each semiannual reporting of Statements of Lobbying Activity and Expenditures (SLAEs) by registered principals. We continue to develop ways to improve access to data regarding reported lobbying activity and encourage public comments, feedback, and suggestions by contacting Brian Bell at, or (608) 261-2023.
Government Accountability Board Statement on Data Quality and Availability

The G.A.B. strives to maintain the highest possible data quality and accurate statistics, and staff members make every effort to assure data accuracy and completeness. The G.A.B. attempts to make the data available as soon as possible after the end of a reporting period, and to present information in a format that is most widely accessible. Due to the complexity of Wisconsin’s structure and business processes, some residual data error resulting from compilation by multiple partners may sometimes occur despite staff’s best efforts and quality control management practices.
