On December 4, 2012 the Government Accountability Board (G.A.B.) sent a communication informing clerks that the G.A.B. will be performing the Post-2012 General Election Voter Record Maintenance and will be sending the Notice of Suspension of Registration postcards on behalf of municipal clerks. The process will be substantially the same process used in 2010 with some improvements based upon the experiences from 2008 and 2010.  This update is to inform clerks of some important dates related to the Post-2012 General Election Voter Record Maintenance.

  • April 15, 2013:  Notice of Suspension of Registration Postcards will be sent. In order to avoid voter confusion in the Spring Elections, and to utilize the most complete voter participation data, the G.A.B. has decided to wait to mail Notices of Suspension of Registration postcards until after the April 2, 2013 Spring Election. The list of voters who will be sent postcards will be taken from the Statewide Voter Registration System on March 25, 2013. Voters sent postcards will be given a status of “Active – Suspended (4 Years Notice) on April 15, 2013.
  • March 25, 2013 - April 15, 2013:  The G.A.B. will provide updated instructional materials to clerks.  Lists of the voters that will be mailed postcards will be made available to clerks.  Directions for processing the returned postcards will be distributed to clerks and posted to the G.A.B. website. Instructions will be provided on new features, including enhanced voter information on the My Vote Wisconsin website.  
  • May 15, 2013:  Deadline for voter to respond with a Request for Continuation of Registration.  On May 15, 2013, G.A.B. technical staff will run a batch process in SVRS to inactivate the voter records of individuals who did not respond to the Notice of Suspension of Registration sent on April 15, 2013. Voters who did not respond with a request for continuation of registration will be given a status of “Inactive-4 Year Maintenance” in SVRS. Voters whose records were recorded as returned undeliverable will also be given the status “Inactive -4 Year Maintenance.” The G.A.B. will provide clerks with the list of voters whose status has been changed to inactive.
