In August 2012, Green County Clerk Mike Doyle, State Representative Howard Marklein, and Wisconsin Counties Association Executive Director Mark O’Connell met with representatives from the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board to express their concerns regarding the election administration workload and its effects on county clerks. During that meeting, Clerk Doyle also shared with the Government Accountability Board staff a letter from the Executive Board of the Wisconsin County Clerks Association that expressed similar concerns along with survey results detailing the challenges facing county clerks across Wisconsin regarding election administration.
The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board formed an Clerk Workload Concerns Task Force to respond to concerns raised by election officials regarding the increasing workload associated with the administration of elections. The task force has met several times and discussed municipal and county clerk elections workloads and how the G.A.B. can work with them and other partner organizations to alleviate the burdens of election administration. The members of this group may also collaborate on joint legislative recommendations to promote effective election administration.
